# Adding QR codes

### Add a QR code

1. Open your design in the editor.
2. Add a **QR code** object (separate from the linear **Barcode** object).
3. Select it to set the content in the sidebar.

### What to encode

Typical uses:

- Product or storefront URL
- A metafield or other product field that contains a URL
- A short static value you control

Keep the encoded text accurate. Extra spaces or a wrong field can produce a code that opens the wrong page.

### Size and print quality

- Make the QR code large enough for your phone or scanner at normal distance.
- Leave clear space around the code.
- Print a sample at your intended DPI and confirm the scan before a large run.

### Barcodes vs QR codes

Use a **Barcode** for retail UPCs/EANs and warehouse Code 128 style codes. Use a **QR code** when you need to open a URL or encode longer text that a 1D barcode cannot hold comfortably.
